Comprehensive DBT Program in San Jose

    Comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy

What Is a Full Fidelity DBT Program in San Jose?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) was originally developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan as a structured, comprehensive treatment for people struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar disorder, and intense relationship difficulties.

Many people come to DBT feeling overwhelmed by their emotions, stuck in painful patterns, or unable to create meaningful change despite their efforts.

When we talk about “full fidelity DBT,” we mean providing the treatment as it was designed—because each part of the program plays a role in helping real change happen.

    Why Structure Matters

Many people come to therapy with insight. They understand their patterns, their history, and even why they experience anxiety, depression, or relationship struggles.

And yet—when it matters most—they still feel stuck.

This is often not a problem of understanding. It’s a problem of having the skills and support to respond differently in real time, especially when emotions become intense or overwhelming.

DBT is designed to address that gap.

DBT Is Not Just Talk Therapy

In more traditional, insight-oriented therapy, the focus is often on:

    • understanding emotions
    • exploring past experiences and trauma
    • making meaning of patterns

This can be valuable and important.

But for many people—especially those dealing with intense emotions, trauma, bipolar mood shifts, or ongoing relationship conflict—insight alone is not enough to create change.

    DBT adds something different:

a focus on actively building new ways of responding, not just understanding what’s happening

    A Comprehensive Approach to Change

A full fidelity DBT program includes several components working together:

    • Individual therapy  looks very different than traditional therapy. We help to understand your patterns and apply skills to challenges but we also use other in session techniques to help you face  like anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties. It’s an equal partnership to get you to your goals.
    • Skills training to learn practical tools for managing intense emotions, improving relationships, and reducing reactivity
    • Coaching support to help you use those skills in real-life moments
    • Ongoing structure and accountability to support steady progress

Each part is designed to help you not just feel better—but function differently in your daily life and relationships.

Building a Life, Not Just Reducing Symptoms

At the core of DBT is a powerful idea:

The treatment for despair is actively building a life

For people struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder, or chronic relationship stress, this means:

    • improving stability and emotional regulation
    • reducing patterns that create more suffering
    • strengthening relationships and communication
    • and moving toward a life that feels meaningful and sustainable

This work happens step by step, often through small, meaningful changes over time.

    A Different Kind of Support

    DBT is both:

    • validating — your experiences with anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship struggles make sense
    • and change-oriented — things can be different

You don’t have to choose between being understood and making progress.

    You get both.

Is This Approach Right for You?

DBT is often a good fit for people who:

    • struggle with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or trauma
    • experience intense emotions or relationship conflict
    • have tried therapy before but still feel stuck
    • want more than insight—they want tools that work in real life
    • are ready to build something different, even if it happens gradually
