DBT Skills for People with High Functioning Autism, Asperger, and Social Pragmatic Communication Disorder
San Jose DBT is pleased to introduce our specialized DBT Skills Training approach to helping adults with High Functioning ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders) including those previously diagnosed with Aspergers (Technically this term is no longer used or in the DSM and has been replaced by Social Pragmatic Communication Disorder).
There is some early and encouraging research underway through the UNC TEACCH Program at Chapel Hill, NC utilizing DBT Skills Training for adults on the ASD Spectrum. Melinda Carlisle Brackett, Founder and Clinical Director of San Jose DBT has completed integrated trainings from UNC TEACCH as well as The Mind Institute at UC Davis. The team at San Jose DBT has optimized our DBT skills program including individual DBT Therapy and DBT Skills Training to fit the unique learning styles of our ASD Clients.
Our program also integrates tools and strategies of Radically Open DBT to create a robust and highly customized approach to helping ASD clients with difficulties in emotion regulation, emotional avoidance, executive functioning, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.
Adult Clients who are high functioning with independence and who suspect they have ASD or have already received a diagnosis are good candidates for our program. We often see clients with ASD who also have co-occurring anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders and learning problems.
Melinda Carlisle Brackett is a former Executive and Project manager in Silicon valley and has special experience and expertise working with tech professionals from some Silicon Valleys’ greatest companies such as eBay, Facebook, Google, and Linked in.
